Responsibilities

The Board of Supervisors is the governing body of the County. The Board is responsible for enacting laws and setting policies. They establish and adopt ordinances and resolutions, appropriate funds, approves the County budget, sets local tax rates, approves and adopts the County's Comprehensive Land Use Plan and enforces zoning and land use ordinances, as well as, carrying out other responsibilities as set forth by the County Code. The Board also appoints citizens to boards, authorities, commissions and committees.

Board of Supervisors

Culpeper County is governed by a seven-member Board of Supervisors.  They are elected from each of the seven districts within the County. All seven members serve staggered terms of four years. Elections are held as a part of the Virginia general election in November of odd-numbered years.

Each calendar year one of its members is elected to serve as Chairman and another to serve as Vice-Chairman for that year. The Board of Supervisors have both administrative and legislative responsibilities.
