Deed Fraud Alert

The Virginia Office of the Executive Secretary has now launched VADeed Alert to Help Protect Property Owners from Deed Fraud. The Culpeper County Clerk’s Office has adopted this system and now offers the ability for citizens to sign-up. The service does not prevent documents from being recorded, nor does it validate the legality of a filing. Instead, it serves as an additional layer of awareness, enabling property owners to review activity related to their property.

Key Features of VADeed Alert:

  • Free to use
  • Available to all property owners in Virginia
  • Notifications sent by email
  • Users can monitor their name, business name, or Tax Map/Parcel ID number

VADeed Alert sends email notifications when certain documents are recorded in the land records that match your name or Tax Map/Parcel ID number. These alerts can help provide early awareness of possible deed fraud or unauthorized filings. VADeed Alert is free and voluntary.

Enrollment is quick and can be completed online in just a few minutes. How to Sign Up: Property owners can visit VA Deed Alert  to register and begin receiving notifications. If you receive a notification of a recording which you have no knowledge of, please call our office immediately at 540-727-3438.
