IMPORTANT:
Next-day inspection requests may be submitted until 2:00 p.m. Requests will be scheduled for the next day if availability allows; otherwise, they will be assigned to the next available date.
Although the online system allows you to select a preferred time when requesting an inspection, requested times are not guaranteed. Inspectors will assign a two-hour arrival window based on the most efficient route for the day.
Inspectors begin their routes at 7:30 a.m. Inspection schedules are posted by 4:30 p.m. the day prior on our website and phone system. To check your scheduled time, visit our Building Department Homepage or call (540) 727-3405 and select option #2 to hear the last four digits of your permit number along with your assigned two-hour time window.
Requesting an Inspection online:
The easiest way to request an inspection is to login to your citizen portal account and open the 'My Dashboard' option seen on the left-hand side of the screen.
The Online Inspection Citizen Portal - CivicGov can be accessed here.
In the Dashboard, you'll be able to open your My Permits section. There, you'll see all of your applications and approved permits.
Applications that have been approved will have the ability to request an inspection. You can do this by clicking on the 'inspect' link.
-
Inspection requests must be submitted for each relevant permit.
-
A point of contact is required in the comments box for each inspection request.
-
For re-inspections, click the re-inspect button rather than creating a new inspection.
Once your inspection request has been received & scheduled by our staff, you will receive a confirmation via email.

- Inspections, not affected by weather conditions, that are scheduled and not performed due to inclement weather, will be rescheduled for the next business day we are open.
- All inspections scheduled will be moved by one or, the total number days our offices are closed.
- Outside inspections such as ground plumbing, sewer & water laterals, footings, exterior slabs, backfill, etc. will be cancelled for that day. It is the responsibility of the permit applicant to reschedule.
- Additional emphasis will be placed on utilizing all available inspection staff in the field to conduct additional inspections to help alleviate the backlog; however, this is purely dependent on manpower resources within the department.
- Delayed opening: Outside inspections such as ground plumbing, sewer & water laterals, footings, exterior slabs, backfill, etc. will be cancelled for that day. It is the responsibility of the permit applicant to reschedule.
- The length of delay/ closure will dictate the amount of inspection backlog. Inspections will be performed in the order received. The assigned inspector will notify the permit applicant of the rescheduled timeslot.
- Understanding timelines are critical to your project, we regret any inconvenience this may cause.
