Apply for Permits Online
To apply for permits online, you must first create a Citizen Portal account.
Visit Civicgov Public Portal Login and follow the steps to register. After submitting your registration, you must wait until you receive an email confirming your account has been approved before logging in for the first time.
Once your account is active, log in and navigate to the “Apply for a Permit” section. From there, select the type of permit you wish to apply for and follow the instructions provided.
Important: Before submitting a building permit application, you must first obtain a Zoning Permit from the appropriate jurisdiction. If your project involves new/connections to well and septic systems, a permit from the Virginia Health Department (VHD) may also be required.

Apply for Permits In Person
Permits may also be applied for in person at the office. PDF applications are available on the left-hand side under the “Applications & Forms” tabs, or you may pick up a copy in the office. Please note that applications are not processed at the counter and are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
