Board of Equalization

Note: The next Board of Equalization (BOE) will be appointed for 2025.

 

As an independent body appointed by the Circuit Court, the Board of Equalization (BOE) has the special duty and responsibility of determining whether the Department of Real Estate Assessments (DREA) has equalized the assessments among property owners. The BOE has the power to increase, decrease, or keep the same assessment upon its review.  

The Board of Equalization (BOE) is active during the period of the general reassessment in Culpeper County.  Board of Equalization members are appointed by the Circuit Court after the completion of each reassessment.  Members are composed of Culpeper County residents who are representative of the community.  

The Board of Supervisors of Culpeper County hereby sets May 1, 2023 for the Board of Equalization to commence its hearings and sets June 16, 2023 as the final date by which property owners or lessees must make application for relief to the 2023 Board of Equalization.
