Winter Activities & Online Registration!!

The winter schedule of activities, The Culpeper Minutes, will be in the mail on Friday, January 9th.

Also the Parks and Recreation Department has some important news...It's a boy? It's a girl? No, it's ActiveNet!

Culpeper County Parks and Recreation would like to introduce you to ActiveNet.

The Department has obtained a recreational software package to help make registering for activities more convenient. Not only does the software accept credit cards, it also provides online registration 24/7, immediate confirmation, and tracking of registered classes.

Want to know if that class you're interested in still has any spaces available? Simply go online and look.

Save gas and a trip to town...register online while at home.

Be the first to get into those fast-filling classes, internet registration begins 3 days before walk-in registrations.

Need to transfer to a different class? Simply go online, log-on to your account, and make the change.

Don't have access to the internet? The Department staff, as always, are here to help you with registering for department activities. You can also still mail in your registrations.

So, how do you get started? Simply click here or stop by the Parks and Recreation office.

Remember to include all the members of your household on your ActiveNet account. Anyone wishing to participate in an activity with the Culpeper County Parks and Recreation Department will need to have an ActiveNet account. Only one account per household is needed. The main contact for the account must be an adult 18 years or older.

Online registration will begin at 12:00am on January 9th.

Walk-in & Mail-in registrations will be accepted starting Monday, January 12th.

Please be aware that starting January 5th, the office will be closing at 4:30pm.

Massanutten Learn to Ski packages have arrived!

Culpeper Co. Parks and Recreation will be selling Ski & Snowboard packages starting on December 1st, 8:00am.

The office will be open LATE until 8:00pm on December 1st only.

To purchase a package you will have to come to the Parks and Recreation office at 155 W. Davis St. For each package you purchase you have to fill out a separate form available in the office and by clicking here.

We accept cash or check, but prefer checks. At this time we are unable to accept credit cards.

There is no limit on the number of packages that you can purchase. However we are only receiving 105 total packages.

Massanutten Resort’s License-To-Slide (LTS) program is geared for skiers and snowboarders from first timers through experts looking for the best valued, season long package.

*The program can be purchased with or without lessons and/or equipment rentals.

*Participants receive 6 slope use tickets, 6 equipment rentals (if purchased,) and 4 one-and-one-half hour lessons (if purchased.)

*For those using this program without lessons, your slope use tickets are valid for any night offered beginning Monday January 12th from 5:00pm-10:00pm.

*Those using this program with lessons, you will begin to receive weekly lessons on FRIDAYS or SATURDAY**, 7:00PM STARTING JANUARY 16, 2008 (**Lessons are on a specific night and are not interchangeable.)

*Slope time is 5:00-10:00pm.

*Lessons are held on the same day at the same time for 4 consecutive weeks.

*Once your 4 lessons are over, your remaining punches will be valid for any night session through the remainder of the season.

Trip to Mt. Vernon - Candlelight Tour of the Estate

Mount Vernon sparkles with holiday cheer during this lively Colonial Christmas event!this holiday program, visitors learn about the Washingtons' Holiday traditions, tour the candlelit Mansion, and meet First Lady 'Martha Washington' .

A Trip to the National Zoo

Looking for something to roar about? Want to take a walk among the wild things and ponder the love life of pandas?

Then join us for a trip to the National Zoo on Saturday, October 11^th.

As you know, autumn is one of the best times to visit Washington, D.C. as summer humidity gives way to colorful foliage and cooler temperatures. With cooler temperatures the animals tend to be more active and easier to spot. Start you own adventure and discover all the 2,000 individual animals and over 400 species that call the National Zoo home.

The National Zoo managed by the Smithsonian Institution, is a 163-acre zoological park nestled within Rock Creek National Park in the heart of Washington, D.C. The Zoo is a great place for young and old to explore the wonders of the animal world.

Join us when we take a walk on the wild side!

The bus will depart at 8:00am and return at 5:00pm to the Culpeper Sports Complex on Jonas Road, behind Eastern View High School.

D.C. United Helps Raise Money for Culpeper Sports Complex

As political conventions dominated the news, the Washington Nationals struggled and the Redskins prepared for a new season, another championship was won by D.C. United.

Despite a smaller market, United easily remains the region’s most successful sports team and Major League Soccer’s most decorated franchise in its 12-year history.

On September 3^rdUnited defeated the Charleston Battery 2-1 and added the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the nation’s oldest soccer tournament to its trophy cabinet.

As fall approaches United will most likely advance into the MLS playoffs in late October and battle for a chance to garner a fifth league title.

Now for a limited time local soccer fanatics can own a piece of sports history.

Thanks to a generous donation by D.C. United local soccer fans will have an opportunity to win a team-signed soccer ball complete with a certificate of authenticity from this cup winning 2008 team.

Culpeper County Parks and Recreation is selling raffle tickets for a chance to win this treasured addition to any sports room. Proceeds from the raffle will support the Culpeper Recreation Foundation, Inc. and provide funds to add concession stands and restrooms at the Culpeper Sports Complex. Tickets are available at Culpeper County Parks and Recreation’s office located at 155 West Davis Street in downtown Culpeper.

A $2 donation earns one raffle ticket and $5 gives you three tickets.

There’s no limit on how many tickets can be purchased.

Signatures include such notable stars as Bolivian forward Jaime Moreno, the MLS’s all-time most prolific goal scorer, former Argentine national player and United midfielder Marcelo Gallardo, Brazilian stars Luciano Emilio and Fred, along with former UVA star, U.S. National Team midfielder and United Captain Ben Olsen.

All of United’s current stars and future stars have signed the ball.

The raffle also has a second drawing for a distinctive 2008 Barra Brava “12^th Man” jersey. La Barra Brava is D.C. United’s most passionate and well-known supporters club.

The club is considered to be the nation’s top MLS supporters club and it has been featured extensively in the Washington Post, Washington Times, Sports Illustrated, Free Lance Star, Comcast Sports Network, Univision, Telemundo and many other notable media outlets. NFL Pepsi Punt Pass & Kick - Success!

Congratulations to all the youth that came out and participated in the NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition hosted by Culpeper County Parks and Recreation. A Big thank you goes out to the volunteers that helped facilitate the event. Without whom, the Department would not have been able to hold this event. Thank you: Beth & Kenny Burns, Pam, Amanda, & Savannah Hensley, Kacey Jenkins, Doug, Ashley & Taylor Miller.

First place winners will advance to the next level of competition. Those winners will receive an email from the Department on Tuesday 9/2/08 (as monday is a holiday).

NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

Culpeper County Parks and Recreation to Host NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

Strike up the band gridiron fans, high school football is kicking off this Friday night, local college powers begin their schedules and the NFL season is just weeks away. No doubt that football fever is sweeping the region.

But what if you’re a little young for the 2008 season?

Fear not there’s an event just for kids that will allow you to show off those rocket arms and legs.

Walk in the footsteps of former and current NFL greats.

This weekend youthful pro football fans will have the opportunity to showcase their football skills when theCulpeper County Parks and Recreation Department hosts an NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition on Saturday, August 30.

The competition is FREE and open to boys and girls ages 8-15. It will be held at 10AM at the Culpeper Sports Complex on Jonas Road behind Eastern View High School.

For competition information, call 540-727-3412 ext 5 – Pre-registration is required by Friday August 29.

A copy of the participant’s birth certificate must accompany registration.

Entry forms also are available at 155 W. Davis St, Suite 100 or online at web.culpepercounty.gov (go to County Government, Parks & Recreation, Programs & Activities).

The NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick football competition allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing, and kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. Age classification is as of December 31 of the current year.

The top finishers from each of eight age groups at the Local competition will advance to a Sectional competition.

A number of NFL players have competed in Punt, Pass & Kick, including top former and current quarterbacks such as Dan Marino and Drew Bledsoe.

The NFL Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick competition is produced by NFL Properties LLC and sponsored by Pepsi.
