The 2015 Board of Equalization is being formed.  The Board of Equalization is appointed by the Circuit Court. 


Qualified applicants are needed to fill three (3) to five (5) positions on the Board of Equalization.   


Interested citizens are encouraged to submit a Letter of Interest denoting their qualifications to hear petitions for equalization of


real estate assessments, including correction of errors in acreage. 


The Board of Equalization shall consist of not less than three (3) nor more than five (5) members. 


All members shall be residents of Culpeper County, and the majority of them shall be owners of real estate in the County. 


Appointments to the Board of Equalization shall be broadly representative of the Community. 


Thirty percent of the Board of Equalization shall be commercial or residential real estate appraisers, other real estate professionals,


builders, developers, or legal or financial professionals.  Each prospective member of the Board of Equalization shall attend and participate in the


basic course of instruction given by the Department of Taxation.  It is anticipated that the Board of Equalization shall begin hearing taxpayer petitions on or after April 1, 2015,


and that it shall complete its work by not later than June 30, 2015. 


As provided in Virginia Code Section 58.1-3375, the members of the Board of Equalization shall receive compensation for


time engaged in their duties, at a rate to be fixed by the Board of Supervisors. Citizens who are interested in serving should submit their Letters of Interest to


the Office of the Culpeper County Attorney, 306 N. Main Street, Culpeper, VA 22701 (540) 727-3407, M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  


Letters of Interest must be received by 5:00 p.m. on December 29, 2014.

reviewed during the year. Most committees have terms ending December 31.  The deadline for these applications is in October


and the Board makes decisions during the December meeting. 


Applicants are notified as soon as possible after decisions are made.

NOTE:  The deadline to apply for Human Services Board and Planning Commission is October 10.
