Building Permit Fee Schedule for Commercial and Residential were carefully reviewed and approved by the Board of Supervisors on August 5, 2008. The new fee schedule will take effect on August 15, 2008. All applications currently under review and applications submitted prior to August 15, 2008 will be calculated according to the current fee schedule.
Residential Fees virtually remain the same for new construction as do the trades: Mechanical, Electric and Plumbing ("M-E-P"). Most of the increases approved applied to Miscellaneous Fees. Effective with this Fee Schedule will be an Administrative Fee of $75.00 that will be required at the time of submission for application of a building permit. This fee will not be refundable if the project is cancelled or abandoned; but will apply to the total permit fee.
The Commercial fee schedule also has minor increases and most of those are in the Miscellaneous Fees. The biggest difference with the commercial fees are the trade permits. For example, the "M-E-P" permits will be calculated by square foot instead of "contract value." Fire protecdtion permits will be charged per device.
Bob Orr, Building Official, carefully weighed and compared approved costs against the current fee schedule and while there is somewhat of an increse overall, it is very little and remains less than most of our neighboring jurisdictions.
