The Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission and the County of Culpeper applied and received a $45,000 grant from the Virginia Department of Transportation to provide Culpeper County with an on-call consultant to prepare a comprehensive bike plan. The consultant’s, HNTB, scope of work consisted of locating potential bike routes, determining road improvements, a feasibility and cost analysis, placement of signage, preparing a comprehensive plan and developing a county-wide master bike plan. The finished County Master Bicycle Plan will expand upon the completed Town of Culpeper Sidewalk, Bikeway and Trail Master Plan to create a comprehensive effort to provide citizens with a walking and bicycling system throughout the county.

With a name like Destiny you’re bound to have a multitude of lofty goals ahead in life. This summer Destiny Marshall, aged 9, participated in the Hershey’s Track and Field Games for the first time. For a first-time participant she’s really making the grade in the 50-yard dash event, advancing from one meet to another and finally to the program’s national meet.
Destiny is the youngest of three children and the daughter of Melinda Marshall; she has an older sister named Dominique, 12, and an older brother named Dy-Shawn, who is 16. She attends AG Richardson Elementary and enjoys playing softball and basketball. She attends St. Stevens Baptist Church where she is in the children’s choir and the praise dance team. She is also an avid reader, loves going to parks and spending time with her family.

Update on the Bike Study.
A report has been completed and the results are:
a. Existing data has been collected and compiled.
b. HNTB consultants invited the public for comment on June 18 to receive thoughts on the current trail system and encouraged attendees to offer suggestions. Several attendees suggested that bike lanes or shoulders could be added to roads that are scheduled to be widened. To be considered is the placement of bicycle racks at everyday places like grocery stores and meeting locations.
