Animal Services mission and vision is to provide the citizen's of Culpeper County with efficient and effective animal control and shelter services to educate the citizens of Culpeper County about the dangers of rabies, current animal laws, and proper animal care.
The Department of Animal Services is responsible for public safety relating to animals, enforcement of state and local animal laws and ordinances, animal welfare and protection, animal control for the County, and humane management of the County-owned Animal Shelter. The department is also responsible for providing the citizens of the County with information and education concerning animal laws, animal care, animal population control, and rabies control.
The animal control officer is available twenty-four hours a day to assist the public with their needs. The shelter is open to the public Monday through Saturday and offers housing for stray and unwanted domestic animals, pet adoptions, lost and found pet services and is the headquarters for animal control. Beginning Monday, September 21, 2015, we will be starting renovations on our animal room floors. Though this will be a big inconvenience, the results will be wonderful! During this time, our animal housing space will be cut in half and we will need to keep our population at a minimum. If you are considering signing an owned pet over to the shelter, we ask that you please wait until our renovations are complete to bring them in. Please let us know if you need our help in the mean time. We appreciate your cooperation during this time.
If you were thinking of adopting a pet, please do so now! You will be helping to free up space for our strays that come in!
